OMG DAPHNE!
I got some good news today, it turns out that my half sister Daphne IS coming to live with us for sure! She’ll be on her way in the next few days.
I can’t wait to see her again and introduce her to all the pals here. Deuce and Orangy will be super excited to have another terrorist running around the house LOL.
I’m pretty sure I’ll be a good big brother, I better be on my best behavior and set a good example for her. My parents keep telling me she’s a lot calmer than I am, hopefully I won’t drive her insane.
Have a safe trip Daph!
Fetch
I’m trying to get this whole fetch thing. Seems kind of repetitive to me. They throw a ball. They want me to bring it back. Cool - no problem! But then they do it again. And again. The first time it’s like okay oops the ball got away - don’t worry I’ll go get it. Second time I’m wondering if something is up. Third time I’m trying to tell them to get a hold of this thing cause I’m not going to keep chasing it. Fourth time I give up.
They seem to think this should be fun. I’m not totally getting it. Maybe once I’m older this will all make sense.
Mom tried to get me really interested in the ball before she threw it. So I snap, snap, snapped my puppy jaws at the ball to get it from her. But then she threw it away. What the!?
So I started eating dirt. Much more fun that chasing that silly ball. Click here to watch.
My favorite time of day is when Mom and Dad come home. I
make sure to talk, talk, talk so they know how excited I am. Mom always insists I go outside before we play. Something about not pottying in the house but that is just no fun. Oh well. Such is life - must obey the ‘rents. Click here to listen.
My Mom and Dad are great but it sure would be fun to have a dog friend to play with every day. I have so much fun when we meet one when we are out and about. Usually on our walks the dogs aren’t very playful or their owners are scared to let them play with me. Imagine when I’m full grown - I’m worried that no one will want to play!!! I’ve heard Mom and Dad talking about my half sister. They keep calling her Hot Pink Girl. I sure do hope she
could come live with us and be my friend! I found a picture of her online.
She is a week younger than I am. I wonder if she knows
who I am? Hopefully she’ll get this message and want to come live with me.
Slept Through the Night
Yay! Yay! Mom and Dad let me sleep on the bed last night. And I slept the whole night - I didn’t cry, I didn’t fall off, I didn’t go potty. Look who’s proving himself as a big boy - IT’s ME!
Rock Head
Rocks are delicious! YUM! YUM! YUM! I love to eat them. YUM! YUM! YUM! Big ones, small ones, some the size of my head. It doesn’t matter. They taste so yummy. Bad news. Mom and Dad don’t think rocks are delicious. There is a big “flower” bed of them in the backyard. “Flower” because there aren’t actually any flowers in it - just delicious rocks. Mom and Dad are getting rid of the rocks tomorrow. What a sad day!
Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head - My First Hike
Fall is a beautiful time of year I’m learning. I don’t have much to compare it to but it seems nice. It is still a little hot for my liking but the leaves turn all sorts beautiful shades. Mom and Dad thought it would be fun to drive to the mountains so we could experience some fall foliage and hiking.
Mom bought a book when she knew I was on my way called, “Best Hikes with Dogs: North Carolina.” It lists, by region, 51 trails with rules, directions and rates the difficulty of each one. Mom has told me (notice I had no input on this) that our goal is to explore each and every one of these trails. Yikes! I better grow up fast!
The first trail we chose to tackle was the Price Lake Loop Trail in Western North Carolina off of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The Scoop:
Length: 2.3 miles (of which I made it about 1.4 miles - more to come on that)
High Point: 3,410 feet
Elevation Gain: 35 feet
Difficulty: Easy
Scattered showers were forecasted for day but we all decided we’d rough it out and make the trek. The leaves don’t stay on the trees for long and we didn’t want to miss the show! We took a quick pitstop in Boone, NC to get some drinks/snacks then headed for the trail. The rain stopped so we took this as a good sign.
The rules said all dogs must stay on a leash but there was no one around so we thought we’d see how I did on my own. Mom and Dad said I needed to stay close so I did just that. I respected them as my parents and made sure not to lead. I went right where they did and made sure my family stayed together. I didn’t wander off once.
About half way down the trail we ran into some problems. It seems the trail washed out at some point but no signs were posted to warn us. Some one had put down a few narrow boards/bridge to weave through the flooded portions. We were half way through the trail so we figured we better keep going. Dad decided he should carry me since it was just a small 2 x 4 for some sections. Mom was on her own. I am a big boy and thought that Dad should help Mom across, not me. I cried and wiggled around but Dad said that he was carrying me and Mom could make it across on her own - end of story.
The rain started to fall after that and I was just miserable. I hate rain - it is like a giant shower and I hate getting bathed! I trudged along for as long as I could but about 2/3 of the way to the end I just gave up. This wasn’t fun anymore. Mom and Dad understood. Mom picked me up and carried me out. Luckily we were only about 15 minutes from an overlook park area. Mom waited there with me while Dad went the remainder of the hike to get the car and pick us up. Thanks Dad!
Next stop was Blowing Rock, NC. I opted to stay in the car in my crate while the ‘rents had some lunch and shopped. That stuff is just so boring. I got a great nap in after a great day with my family!
I can’t wait to do more. Next I think we’ll do one closer to home and shorter in length so that I can hopefully make it the whole way on my own four paws.
Bumper Cars
Helped Dad change his bumper on the track car today. Watch how helpful I was:
