sophie play date

We had a fun playdate. A German Shepherd named Sophie had her Canine Good Citizen Test yesterday. This is her. She’s 3 years old.

sophiesquare on

Her mom thought it would be a good idea to have her come over and play to get some energy out before her test. I met her when I was just a little pup but this was Daphne’s first encounter. I made sure to keep a close eye on things just in case…the dumbear can be a bit spastastic around new animals.

sophiedaphnemeet

During our first meeting we both ran and played and shouted - Sophie and I are both quite vocal beasts. So the ‘rents expected that we’d all do the same again. Plus, Daphne and I can be very energetic and wary of new dogs. So they keep a close eye on us. I mean what else are we supposed to do. Pups could be a threat. We have to be on our paws.

prusophmeet

But I’m older and wiser now. I recognize a German Shepherd when I see one. No show here. We all just did our sniffs hello and hung out. Played some ball. I let Sophie get it. I’m such a gentleman.

sophjump

Daphne grew a pair and decided to steal the ball for herself. So out of character. The extra female in the yard must have boosted her confidence! She still doesn’t look too sure about her decision if you ask me.

daphnewithball

All this playing though sure did make us thirsty. It just keeps getting warmer here. Sophie didn’t quite get the concept of drinking out of the water bowl. Maybe her paws were hot.

Sometimes she doesn’t act so ladylike. Sheesh woman - wipe your chin! I know I’m sexy but we are front of the folks.

I have other methods for water consumption. You’ve got to be efficient.

But I don’t think Sophie was too impressed.

pruwateruncilvilited

It was a fun (if uneventful by my folks standards) afternoon! And the great news - Miss Sophie passed her test! WAY TO GO! Look at her smile - I think she knew she could do it. She just wanted to see her Mom sweat it out!

Let us know if you have passed or are considering taking your K-9 Good Citizen Test!

And don’t forget to vote over there to the right!

Lemonaid

up close and personal with daphne
Daphne reporting in. We had a great time this weekend. Sadly Dad’s car didn’t make it through the weekend. OH NOES! Even the best lemonaid couldn’t revive her. We had a great time though and he kicked some tail out on the track before the car went sour. Figured you might like a picturific post with highlights of the event and our new friends! Hope you all had a great weekend.

The last picture is me from this weekend! Look at me grow!

big head pru
Pruett is getting big too. At least his head is. I think it is filled with rocks.

pruett goes fast
Here is some proof that his head is indeed full o’ rocks. He is trying to fool you into thinking he is a race car driver. A driver that can go fast. But if you will notice he is not in the car nor actually moving. Those ears don’t fool anyone!

dog walk
We did a lot of walking around.

sitting pups
And a lot of sitting around. There were lots of people and noises and strange smells.

We did good on Friday and Saturday. But by Sunday morning we were beat. Not quite as beat as this car though. Poor car. :(

cranky
We get cranky when we are tired and sometimes our ears don’t work well. Do any of you have problems hearing when you get tired? Do you think we should see a doctor?

pruett naps on daphne
We tried napping but it didn’t help. Still tired.

snuggs with mom
We even tried snuggling up with Mom. But we were still pretty worn out.

yawning daphne
Maybe I just need someplace more comfy. I look like I’m losing my mind a little bit. That is what happens when you don’t get enough sleep!

daphne in orange chair full view
This should do. Why should I have to lay in the dirt?!

daphne orange chair close up
This is the way to hang out at the track. Oh yeah!

Now to our pup friends:

brooke
This is Brooke. She is super soft and super sweet. She is a only a few months older than we are!

lexie
This is Lexie. You may remember she came to our yard and had the nerve to try to rough us up. Well we are bigger now. And she has been practicing her manners for sure. We all got along pretty well. The humans kept us on leashes just to be safe though. No trust!

schafer
There was even another GSD at the track. He was super friendly. We found out that he was rescue dog. It seemed he’d found himself a good forever home.

mars
This is Mars. He is a regular at the track with us. He is the quiet and reserved type. I think he thinks he is wiser than us young pups. You’ll here him sigh and see him shake his head. Loosen up Mars! Have some fun! :D

fourpups in front of car
Mars left before we took this group photo. Here are the pups and one of Dad’s teammates in front of the car. It was a fun weekend but we were really happy to go home. This was our first adventure away from home without any crates. Free pups for the weekend. And we did great! No problems at the hotel - slept sound and snorry right on the floor. And when we needed a break and it was cool enough - we just hopped right in the back of the truck. Guess we are growing up!

Everyone really loved the bandannas mom made! They were a big hit!

Don’t forget to check out the book club and discussion in the new GSD Adventures Forum.

We have had 20 entries so far for the photo contest. Don’t miss out on the fun! Send us your photos right away. Deadline is April 15. See official rules here.

More Maddieness and Tyson

Tyson & I Battle It Out!

Tyson & I Battle It Out!

Daphne and I went over to see Tyson and Maddie this weekend. What a BLAST! Now that I’m getting bigger they aren’t nearly as scary and I can just run out and start playing Daphne is still more hesitant that I am but quickly joined in the fun.

Each time we go and play Daphne and I get faster and faster. I’m not sure if we’ll ever be as fast as Maddie but I sure hope so. SHE RUNS LIKE THE WIND! She kept “hiding” from us in this big pile of leaves at the back of the yard. SHHHH - don’t tell - but she wasn’t really fooling any of us. She hasn’t noticed but she’s not exactly a tiny girl. We would go “looking” for her and she’d JUMP out of the leaves and start running in big circles around the yard. I’d run after her but I could never catch up. We all played for nearly two hours!!! When she runs fast I get frustrated because I can’t catch her. I bark, bark, BARK at her but she just won’t slow down!

It doesn’t help that it keeps raining here so the ground is all muddy. It makes for some awesome skids and wipe outs but does nothing for my traction and keeping up with the other dogs. Hopefully we can schedule another play date soon!!!!

Daphne Gets to Meet Tyson and Maddie

I introduced Daphne to my friends Tyson and Maddie last night. They ran right up to us when we got to their house but for me and Daphne that was a bit scary! They are big dogs! Daphne yelped and yelped - you would have thought they were attacking her but she quickly adjusted to them and we all got to run around the big yard and play! Daphne is still figuring out how to play (ok I admit - so am I). We tend to bark and herd more than we can figure out this fetch game with a ball. Mom and Dad say we really just fetch the other dogs more than the ball. Hopefully we can go play this weekend in the day time so we can get some pictures of us in action! Daphne and I are getting bigger and faster and I think Tyson and Maddie will have a run for their money soon enough!pawpru

Porkchop

Porkchop Trying to Prove He's Tough Stuff

I made a new friend this weekend. His name is Porkchop. He is a 5 month old boxer. He thinks he’s so big and cool but give me a month or two and the tables will be turned. I’ll be able to coordinate these paws of mine and will surely be in charge.

Sneakeh Kittehs!

Those sneakeh kittehs with the kootehs figured out how to open the cabinet and chewed a hole in our fewd bag and helped themselves! OMG! The bag clearly says Puppy Fewd - NOT Kitteh Buffet! Kittehs BEWARE! Revenge is inevitable!

Daphne’s First Weekend at the Track

Hanging Out at VIR - My First Track Weekend
Hanging Out at VIR - My First Track Weekend

I had my very first weekend at the track. We went to VIR. Pruett has been several times but this was my first. I was worried about all the new noises and sounds but got there and realized it really wasn’t so bad at all. Let’s start from the beginning.

We left Friday afternoon after working on the car and loading up all afternoon. That was hard work and I thought I deserved a treat. I snuck upstairs to munch on some kitteh fewd. MMMMM! DELICIOUS! Almost as delicious as dirt - but not quite. The drive wasn’t too long but the weather was terrible! It rained all day Friday and for the entire drive. I quickly realized that the kitteh fewd treat wasn’t such a good idea. MENTAL NOTE: No kitteh fewd before going on road trips. I tried everything I could to keep that kitteh fewd in my tummy but it was no use. I made it almost all the way to the track but BLEHK - all over Nugget (our stuffed rooster - I’m sorry Aunt Kara and Mom and Dad and mainly Mom cause you had to clean it all up). It really smelled terrible! I was good to go after that though! We got to the track and unloaded everything and headed to the hotel.

Pruett and I had our first elevator ride. No big deal for us brave GSDs though! We had some dinner and went to bed to rest up for my first full track day.

Sadly the gloomy weather didn’t cease overnight. Saturday was humid and cloudy with threatening skies. The ground was muddy and wet. Pruett and I thought this ground condition was quite fun but for some reason Mom didn’t agree. The wind kept blowing all our gear around so we had to back up our base camp. Our human friend Colin’s tent blew over on Mom, Pruett and I! It was completely wrecked! All the metal was bent like an umbrella turned inside out. The wind was SO CRAZY!!!! After that we decided to stay in our crates for a while until the storm blew through.

Please let me go for a ride with you Dad!!!!

Please let me go for a ride with you Dad!!!!

The weather cleared up in the afternoon and we decided it was finally time to stretch our legs, play and explore VIR. Since Pruett had been here before he wanted to show me around. There were so many people! Nearly everyone wanted to stop and say hello to us. They all seemed friendly but I wasn’t too sure. Pruett would run up and greet them all. Maybe he’d met them before? Sometimes I barked and sometimes I just watched from behind Mom. I’m just not the run up and say hello type like Pruett but I do want to be friendly - it just takes me a little longer. Some people wouldn’t give me a long enough chance though so I’d run after them letting them know I was ready to be friends.
Mom was always right there if I got scared.

Mom was always right there if I got scared.

Sunday brought clear skies and a brisk temperature drop! Pruett and I were thrilled - we were finally comfortable since we always have our winter coats on. We got to play outside all day in the sunshine! I was worried about the noise at the track but it wasn’t so bad. We climbed a set of stairs to a balcony area so we could watch the cars on a long straight away. The noise was really loud up there. Mom let me watch the cars from her lap. Pruett loved to lay at the edge of the balcony and watch the cars ZOOM by. Each time he would watch them come around the corner and then ZOOM and he would continue to watch them down the straight away. Maybe he will grow up to be a race car driver!!!!
I think it will take me a few more of these track events to get used to the noise and people but I sure do think it will be a lot of fun!

Vera Lynn Came To Visit

Pruett:

I’m so excited! My girlfriend Vera Lynn came to visit to welcome Daphne to the family. We all go to play, play, play! It was great because Daphne was still feeling a little shy so this way I got to run around and get some puppy energy out with Vera Lynn. Click here to watch us all play. :) By the end of the day she was comfortable and I think she’s realizing this is her forever home and new family. :)

Tyson & Maddieness

I just watched and observed at first. These two played rough and I was not quite sure how to interact.

I just watched and observed at first. These two played rough and I was not quite sure how to interact.

I made two new friends (eventually) tonight: Tyson (Boxer) and Maddie (Black lab/Newfoundland/Boxer). We pulled up to the house and these two huge dogs came running out. I still have a tough time telling the difference between excitement and aggression so I start panicking. “DAD! DAD! DAD! AHHH!,” I screamed. Dad pulled me out of the car. WHAT WAS HE THINKING?! I WAS TERRIFIED! I didn’t know them. He said they were friends but I wasn’t so sure. We went into the yard and Dad assured me I’d have fun and needed to practice making friends. I watched first. Click here to watch.

Then we started to play some more. Click here to watch.

Sometimes they played in ways I didn’t understand but I went along with it since they really seemed to know what they were doing. Their human neighbor went into his backyard and Tyson and Maddie went and jumped up on the fence and started barking. I’m not sure what that means but I didn’t want to be odd man out so I followed.

Sometimes they played a little too rough for me but that is why they have each other. Pretty soon Daphne will be here and I can pick on someone my own size. I just watched and observed and got some ideas for how to kick my sister’s butt! hehehehehe. :)
Playing is hard work. I can’t wait for Daphne to get here. Our breeder Mom Kim called and said Daphne would be here on Wednesday (THAT’S TOMORROW) at 5:15 pm! OMG!

We all sure were worn out in the end. I bet there will be a lot of pictures of Daphne and I all worn out.
